Free attractions in Vienna

Vienna is an Austrian city of incredible beauty with many of the most important tourist attractions, restaurants and cafes with traditions, charming squares and museums that satisfy the desire of travelers looking for the beauty of history. But Vienna can be very expensive, hotel room prices may not be affordable for some, especially in the central area, public transportation costs a large amount of money, and most of the well-known sights such as Mozart's house or Schönbrunn Palace also may have a somewhat high entry cost.

However, the capital of Austria offers great experiences for tourists who do not have a huge budget. If you plan your vacation well in time, you can get a hotel room at a very good price, and public transportation can be largely avoided, especially if you want to visit the main sights that are very close to each other.

In addition, Vienna has a lot of attractions that you do not have to pay money to see or to enter if you want to visit them. Here are some examples of these free places:

Schönbrunn Palace Gardens. Schönbrunn Palace itself requires a ticket, but the gardens surrounding the majestic buildings can be visited for free. A great place for walking, running, romantic meetings or picnics. Filled with magnificent plants, Roman ruins, fountains and Baroque statues, these gardens are sure to take up a few hours from every visitor to Vienna's vacation. In addition, if you go to Guluget you will get an excellent view of the city.

St. Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdom). One of Vienna's most famous sights is St. Stephen's Cathedral. The large Gothic church is located on St. Stephen's Square and, at one point in history, was the tallest building in Europe. It can be visited for free. However, if you want to go up to one of its towers or if you want to visit the catacombs in the basement, you will have to pay 6 euros.

Naschmarkt. Visiting the local markets is one of the best ways to get to know the atmosphere, culture and traditions of the place. The Naschmarkt provides great insight and introduces you to why Vienna is so popular for dining. The Naschmarkt dates back to 1780 and has over 100 shops, making it the largest market in the city. Every day, thousands of fresh vegetables, animal products, spices and sweets are sold in the historic stalls here.

Ringstraße. Another good way to see the essence of Vienna is to walk around the Ringstrasse. This is the street surrounding the historic center of the city and one of the most famous streets in Austria. Walk around and you will be able to see some of the most famous and important buildings in Vienna, such as the Rathaus (City Hall), the Palace of Parliament, the Museum of Natural History (Museum of Nature) and the Museum of Art History (Museum Kunsthistorisches).

Volksgarten and Stadtpark. Vienna is known for a large number of wonderful parks and public parks. Chief among them is the Volksgarten, a beautiful park right in the city center, known as the People's Garden because it was the first public park open in 1825. Another great park is the Stadtpark, also located in the center of Vienna. It was opened in 1863 and its fame comes from hosting the statue of the Austrian musician Johann Strauss.
