To my surprise, the M2 MacBook Air was able to complete all of these tasks without any difficulty.
I was impressed by how closely the M2 MacBook Air's performance compared to that of my 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021) with an M1 Pro chip, which is an extremely powerful machine. While the MacBook Pro is still superior in terms of raw performance, the M2 MacBook Air was able to hold its own for most tasks.
In conclusion, the M2 MacBook Air has the capability to handle approximately 75% of the tasks that previously required a MacBook Pro. This can potentially save you $500-$1000, as the M2 MacBook Air I tested (with a 10-core GPU and 16 GB of RAM) retails for $1700, while a comparable MacBook Pro costs at least $2000-$2500.
Additionally, the M2 MacBook Air is much lighter and more portable than the MacBook Pro, weighing only 2.7 pounds and being significantly smaller in size.
While professionals and creatives with complex needs such as video and photo editing, animation, and rendering large files will still likely prefer the greater power and larger display of the MacBook Pro, many people will be pleasantly surprised by the M2 MacBook Air's capabilities and performance.
In addition to its impressive performance, the M2 MacBook Air also boasts a redesigned hardware that showcases both aesthetics and practicality.
