Officials say three firemen were critically hurt and one is still trapped in the Southwest Baltimore fire.

Firefighters responded to a fire in the 200 block of South Stricker St in the city's New Southwest/Mount Clare area at 6 a.m. Monday. The three-story home partially collapsed while fighting the fire, trapping the four firemen inside, according to Niles Ford, the local fire chief. According to him, one fireman was saved right away.

"We cleared mountains of rubble as rapidly as possible in order to identify the trapped members," Ford added.

Ford said two other firemen were rescued "within an hour" and sent to Maryland Shock Trauma.

The house had completely fallen by 11:45 a.m., and firemen had moved to the roof of a house next door as smoke billowed from the wreckage. After that, personnel began clearing the wreckage from the damaged home using an excavator.
